More About Dylan

Dylan Helmenstine grew up in a small, rural Wisconsin community. His parents were raised on farmsteads on different sides of the same valley. Like many Wisconsinites, he grew up with a big Wisconsin family full of farmers, nurses, small business owners, teachers, and more.

“My family taught me to always work hard, to be a good neighbor and friend, to show up for family, and to serve in whatever way I can.”

Dylan lives those values every day. After graduating with his Master’s of Public Affairs at UW-Madison, he returned to his hometown to help build a strong future for the community that set him up for success. Since then, he has been elected to the school board, the village board, and serves as president of the local EMS district. Dylan has also served the state as a frontline response staff during the pandemic, and as an auditor and financial analyst for Wisconsin Medicaid programs.

As a local elected official and a former state employee, Dylan has seen how our local communities are being held back.

“...I have been trying to open doors for new pathways forward, but I have instead found brick walls blocking our progress. Local leaders from across the state will tell you the same thing. The way we are doing things in Wisconsin is not working. Our rules and laws, our system of government is broken.”

As State Treasurer, Dylan will keep the megaphone in the hands of the people of Wisconsin. A better future is possible if we work for it. It starts with being honest about the incredible need for structural change, and working together to achieve it.
